The Right Nut Brown Ale recently won a prestigious award at the Perth Royal Show, taking the trophy for Champion Dark Beer at the competition. We are very proud of this beer, which has been a favourite of many beer drinkers in WA for many years.
The secret behind any good brown ale is the blend of malts used in the recipe. Roasted malts add both the seductive chestnut colour to the beer, as well as the toasty, roasty, and nutty flavours associated with this beer style. There are several variations of the brown ale beer style, ranging from sweeter English styles to more hoppy and bitter American styles. The Right Nut Brown Ale sits somewhere between the two. We focus on using plenty of toasted malts to bring out a nutty character, while balancing the malt sweetness with a good dose amount of American hops.
This is a beer I like to call ‘warm-weather dark beer’, because even though it has a richness that’s well suited to cold and rainy days, it’s still light and refreshing enough to be enjoyed in the warmer months. The Right is also a very food friendly beer, and pairs perfectly with a steak sanga or mince pie, and works will with chocolate desserts as well.
